Leader: April Owenby assisted by Sadie Wilson and Addison Gaskin
We will practice the basic skills needed to form a complete argument as we look forward to learning and competing in a style of debate known as Team Policy Debate. Team policy debate is foundational and should be mastered before attempting other forms of debate at the Varsity level.
At the junior varsity level, little to no homework will be assigned outside of practice. Additionally, no internet or technology usage is required. All necessary research for debate can be completed during practice sessions. Students looking for more of a challenge may consult with the class leader for recommended resources or extra assignments.
Students wishing to compete in debate tournaments may find it beneficial to communicate and work with their partner outside of practice time. We will discuss tournament preparation much more as the season progresses.
Parents, from time to time, we will need you to judge our practice rounds. Please be willing and flexible when you are called on. Judging practice rounds is great practice before judging at tournaments. We will offer training and the atmosphere is very relaxed. If you are absolutely unable to judge our practice rounds, you may be asked to find a replacement judge. Please contact your class leader if you need extra assistance.
